Notes

The collar and hood is joined to the garment by a 'knit-in' method. A 'knit-in' technique is a 'join as you knit method', by picking up a stitch from the edge you are connecting to.

Please be aware that there are different terms for crocheting and knitting in American and British English, if in doubt, we've included a list of common abbreviations.

Joining

Join front side seams to back.

Join front shoulders to back, leaving back neckline opening of 12 (14,16,18)sts.

Join sleeves sides and into armhole apex.

Sew pockets onto left and right fronts aligning bottom edge with bottom hems, and centre each pocket.

Hood

You will knit -in a hood by picking up stitches first along the left hand side of the garment neckline, adding stitches to the count on every 2nd row, as follows:

Pick up 4 sts from the cast off horizontal edge of the front neck lapelle.

  1. Knit row.
  2. Pick up a stitch from the vertical front neckline, and purl it separately on the next row so that 1 extra stitch is added to the count. (5 sts)

Keep working as per rows 1-2, working your way up the front vertical neckline edge (you will pick up [3,3,4,4] sts along here) and then along the front horizontal neckline (you will pick up [4,4,5,5] sts), and when you reach the horizontal edge of the back neckline you will have [10,10,12,12] sts on your needle in total.

Continue working along the back neckline picking up 4 sts along this edge as follows:

  • Pick up a stitch from the horizontal edge of the back neckline, and purl it together with the first stitch on the next row. (10,10,12,12) sts remain on the needle)

Now you are going to work your way across the other side, (the right side) of the garment neckline. This time you will be reducing stitches on every 2nd row, as follows:

  1. Knit row (10,10,12,12) sts
  2. Pick up a stitch from the vertical edge of the right hand side neckline, and purl it together with the first stitch on the next row, p2tog, p to end of row (9,9,11,11 sts)

Keep working as per rows 3-4 above, working your way along the horizontal right hand side neckline edge (4.4, 5,5 sts), then along the vertical right face of the neckline edge (3,3, 4, 4) sts, and when you have 4 sts left on your needle, cast off. Seam the cast off edge into (cast off edge) of the left hand side lapelle.

Darn in all ends with your fingers and trim to neaten.
